Conditions

The Prix Cube rewards the best digital artwork created by an artist under the age of 36. The purpose of this award is to highlight and support work by an emerging artist in the international digital art scene.

The Prix Cube will be awarded to a digital artwork less than 2 years old in the following areas: interactivity, generativity, network, internet and mobility. The artworks must be innovative installations or systems which explore the characteristics of digital technology in art (excluding live shows, video art and photography).

Five artworks will be shortlisted and exhibited to the public during an exhibition at the Espace Saint-Sauveur in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Grand Paris Seine Ouest, France) from 26 to 30 November 2014.

The winner of the Prix Cube will receive €10,000.

Article 1: General presentation

Le Cube’s mission is to promote and circulate digital arts. Managed and coordinated by the ART3000 association, located 20 Cours Saint-Vincent 92130 Issy-les-Moulineaux – France, Le Cube is organising the Prix Cube 2014. This international award aims to discover and showcase the work of a young artist aged under 36 years who has created an original digital artwork.

Article 2: Entered artworks

The Prix Cube is awarded to a digital artwork in the following areas: interactivity, generativity, network, internet and mobility. The artwork must be an innovative installation or system which explores the characteristics of digital tools in art.
It must be a recent artwork, designed and finished during the two years prior to entries opening for the Prix Cube. The Prix Cube is not intended to assist design. Artists cannot enter any artwork that cannot be shown publicly or is unfinished.
Live shows, video art, photography and non-artistic projects are not eligible for the Prix Cube 2014.

Article 3: Eligible artists

Candidates must be under 36 years old on the date the prize is awarded: 25 November 2014. The Prix Cube is an international award. Artists may enter individually or as a group. Groups must name one member as their representative. For collective artworks, at least one artist must meet the age criteria and have played a significant part in the artwork’s origins. One artist may enter several artworks, subject to them meeting the criteria defined in Article 2.

Article 4: Prize money

The Prix Cube includes prize money of €10,000 paid to the artist or artistic group representative who created the winning artwork. This prize money includes the transfer of public exhibition rights for the artwork during the Prix Cube 2014 exhibition.

Article 5: Organisation

A panel of experts will shortlist five (5) artworks in May 2014 from among the eligible artwork entries. The five shortlisted artworks will be exhibited and presented to the panel at the Prix Cube exhibition at Espace Saint-Sauveur in Issy-les-Moulineaux from 25 to 30 November 2014.
The panel comprises leading figures in art and culture along with professionals from the digital sector. It will award the Prix Cube 2014 to the artwork judged as the most remarkable of the five for its artistic qualities and message. The panel members will be named on prixcube.com. The panel can only choose one winning artwork for the Prix Cube 2014. Under no circumstances can there be a tie for first place.
The artist(s) whose artwork is shortlisted for the Prix Cube 2014 will attend the prize giving ceremony to be held on 25 November 2014 at Espace Saint-Sauveur in Issy-les-Moulineaux.

Article 6: Exhibition of shortlisted artworks

The five shortlisted artworks will be exhibited to the public in the Espace Saint-Sauveur in Issy-les-Moulineaux from 25 to 30 November 2014. Le Cube covers the technical cost of presenting the shortlisted artworks, the transport costs and accommodation for the artist. The artist transfers public exhibition rights for the artwork to ART3000-Le Cube for the duration of the Prix Cube 2014 exhibition if shortlisted. In exchange Le Cube will pay the artist, for this transfer of dissemination rights during the exhibition, the amount of €1,000 including tax when invoiced. The artist will be present to finalise the installation of the artwork and for the prize giving. The terms of dissemination of the artwork will be discussed with the organisers based on the technical details provided in the entry and may be adapted to the specific conditions of the exhibition.

Article 7: Terms of entry

Artworks will be assessed by a selection committee and panel members based on the submitted entry (written in French or English). Registration is done by uploading the entry to prixcube.com.
The latest date on which entries will be accepted is 12 May 2014 at 12 noon (Paris time). Applicants will receive an email confirming their entry has been received. Any incomplete entry or any entry that arrives after the closing date will not be accepted. Entries submitted cannot be modified, even before the closing date. Applicants must compile their entry in line with the model that can be downloaded from prixcube.com. The entry must include the following details:

• Presentation of the applicant (date of birth, CV, references and artistic career to date). Maximum 3 pages.
• Detailed, illustrated presentation of the artwork: description, artistic challenges and message, how the artwork interacts with the public. Maximum 8 pages.
• Detailed specifications: technology used, set-up plan, necessary equipment if performed, transport details (weight, dimensions, packaging). Maximum 4 pages.
• Video presenting the artwork, if possible in a public exhibition situation.

The entry must be illustrated with images of the artwork so its operation and challenges may be understood. All of these details must be contained in one pdf document. The artwork presentation video must be available online via a url.
Artists wanting to enter several artworks must complete one entry for each artwork.

The applicant(s) have a right to access, modify and delete data concerning them (pursuant to Article 34 of Law Computer and Freedoms Law No. 78-17 of January 6, 1978). Article 8: Communication

Applicants whose artworks are shortlisted give their approval for all audio and video capture and recordings required for promoting the Prix Cube 2014, and authorise ART3000-Le Cube, media and Prix partners to use and circulate free of charge these media when promoting the current and future Prix. This circulation may occur on all media, including the internet and social networks, in any form and both in France and abroad.
The applicant(s) whose artwork wins the Prix Cube 2014 will include on all documents mentioning the artwork (credits, plates, website, etc.), without time limit, the words “Prix Cube 2014”

Article 9: Obligations

By entering the Prix Cube 2014, you accept these rules. The ART3000-Le Cube president has the power to settle all situations not covered by these rules. In the event of a dispute regarding the interpretation of a rule, the French text will prevail. ART3000-Le Cube reserves the right to cancel or change the Prix procedure when circumstances require; it cannot be held liable in this situation.
